The Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is a leader who serves as a catalyst to leverage best practices and resources across WCG business units to promote a culture of inclusion where all individuals, regardless of race and ethnic identities, ages, nationalities, social and economic status, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, religious, ideological perspectives, and physical and mental abilities are able to thrive and be engaged. The Director provides strategic, tactical and programmatic leadership for diversity and inclusion initiatives that advance diversity as a critical component of business, social and intellectual life at WCG.


• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, industrial relations, business administration or related field, Master’s Degree preferred; 

• Professional certification (SPHR or SHRM-CP) a plus


• At least five (5) years of management experience directing an in-house DEI function and leading diversity, equity and inclusion programs for an enterprise. Candidates who have designed, developed and launched a DEI function for mid-sized companies (e.g., 1,000+ employees) “from scratch” are preferred.

• Demonstrated innovative, strategic and results-oriented leader who can convey a broad vision for the role of diversity in achieving institutional excellence while executing tactical deliverables (e.g., Affirmative Action Plans, dashboards). 

• At least 3 years’ experience preparing and executing against government-required reports and plans (e.g., Affirmative Action Plans, EEO-1 reports) and working through Department of Labor and other regulatory audits (e.g., OFCCP).

• Demonstrated experience in facilitating difficult discussions, shepherding change, creating and strengthening partnerships, and aligning an array of DEI-focused efforts across a mid-sized organization. 

• Demonstrated success as a collaborator and relationship builder, with strong interpersonal skills and ability to build coalitions and collaborative working relationships with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups, including senior executives, to achieve results.

• Demonstrated cultural awareness and agility and ability to build trust, credibility and navigate a complex global remote landscape.

• Demonstrated experience managing DEI components of employee engagement surveys, translating and presenting results, and developing action plans to improve areas of opportunity. Demonstrated success in identifying and implementing best practices of diversity, equity and inclusion and an excellent command of modern diversity and inclusion concepts and issues.

• Demonstrated success in working collaboratively to develop and implement recruitment and retention strategies focused on building a diverse workforce. 

• Demonstrated success in partnering with employee resource groups to advance the interests of such groups and create a business tie-in for WCG.

• Exceptional oral and written communication skills with experience in multiple communication modes, including social media, with the ability to articulate the importance of inclusion and diversity to the broader senior leadership team.

• Knowledge of laws, regulations and guidelines related to diversity, inclusion and nondiscrimination in Civil Rights, EEOC, ADEA, ADA, and Section 504. 

• Proven analytical skills and ability to provide oversight for assessments related to company climate, diversity, and inclusion. 

• History of effective leadership in a culture of shared governance. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.

• Strategic Leadership (40%) 

o Provides vision and leadership to effectively integrate inclusion into the work of WCG, working closely with senior leadership, diversity representatives, D&I Council, ERG leaders and the WCG workforce to shape and implement plans and strategies aligned with goals and creating a welcoming environment for all. This includes facilitating and coordinating strategic planning and prioritization in the areas of diversity and inclusion; conducting periodic climate surveys; and working collaboratively to develop and implement strategies and initiatives that advance a climate of diversity and inclusion and support WCG’s mission, vision and goals. 
o Specific responsibilities include: 
- Collaborates with, educates and influences senior leaders to integrate diversity best practices into employment and workplace practices, including business practices, policies and programming.
- Engaging appropriate stakeholders and subject matter experts, develops, implements, operationalizes and measures the WCG’s strategic diversity and inclusion plan, vision and related goals. 
- Is the HR lead presentative on the WCG Diversity & Inclusion Council and works closely with the WCG’s network of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs).
- Serves as advisor to the Executive Leadership Team on initiatives and solutions related to diversity, equity and inclusion and WCG climate. 
- Is a designated spokesperson, internally and externally, for WCG in matters of diversity, equity and inclusion. Communications forums include newsletters, Town Hall meetings, internal memos, community responses, conferences and speaking opportunities.
- Collaborate with the externally facing Diversity in Clinical Trials team to advance DEI objectives and goals.
- Maintains vigilance on changing public policies, laws and sentiments. Makes recommendations effecting WCGs approach and mission on diversity and inclusion as well as overall employee engagement.
- Ensures all HR initiatives are integrated with and supports the overall mission, goals, and objectives of WCG.

• Advice, Compliance, Reporting, and Guidance (35%)

o Ensures the development and communication of related policies, standards and procedures. Serves as an advocate, mentor and resource for concerns and issues related to diversity and inclusion.  
o Is the lead in creating, filing and overseeing WCG’s Affirmative Action Plans and EEO-1, Vets-4212 and other government mandated filings.
o Develops metrics and scorecards to systematically measure the effectiveness and/or progress of programs and processes regarding diversity and inclusion, including surveys, hiring, retention and overall demographics.
o Collects, analyzes, monitors and disseminates data to benchmark and promote accountability for diversity and inclusion at WCG.
o Oversees compliance with state and federal regulations and WCG policies and procedures; develops, implements, and revises policies and procedures as necessary. Is the lead on interactions with Department of Labor (OFCCP) and other regulatory agencies in matters of diversity.
o Serves as EEOC/ADA Officer for WCG, overseeing all complaints and investigations related to discrimination, harassment, hostile work environment, etc.  

• Program Development (25%) 

o Collaborate with HR to develop hiring and retention tactics to attract and retain a highly talented, diverse workforce.
o Working with Talent Acquisition, proposes, develops and deploys initiatives that broaden WCG’s outreach to diverse, qualified candidates. 
o Works with WCG’s ERGs to ensure their focus and goals are aligned to WCG goals and initiatives, and groups are properly organized.
o Develop reports and dashboards for business units, internal and external clients.
o Works to educate and train people managers and leaders to drive effective adoption of diversity and inclusion in daily operations.

• Other duties as assigned by supervisor. These may, on occasion, be unrelated to the position described here.
