OVERVIEW:

Antelope’s Chief People Officer role is a key leadership position for the company, with the primary role of ensuring Antelope’s PeopleFirst strategy is a value creation lever and a competitive advantage. This person must have a strong executive presence, high EQ and self-awareness, and a willingness to roll up his/her sleeves and exercise strong strategic judgment.

This role will build and lead an operationally strong People & Culture function, including talent acquisition, people operations, performance management, compensation & benefits, retention and more, with scalable systems, processes, and analytics to measure and constantly improve our employees’ experience as we scale. We want to be known as the “best place to start and develop your career.” within the next-generation consumer or pet categories. As CPO, this person will be instrumental in making this vision come to life.

This role reports to the Antelope Founder & CEO (Wendy Wen), is part of the Antelope Executive Team, and will help mold the future of Antelope. Our hubs are located in New York City, San Francisco, Reno, and Tampa. This role can be remote, with the expectation that the CPO will travel on an as-needed basis for important in-person touchpoints.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recruiting
  • Recruit and close candidates across all levels -- developing recruiting strategies and KPIs, generating strong inbound and outbound candidate pipelines, and developing a playbook for closing candidates
  • Develop and evolve our robust interview frameworks / processes across all levels, including job descriptions, scorecards, interview panelists, etc.
  • Partner and support hiring leads throughout the search process, including assisting in development of job descriptions / scorecard / compensation bands, leading initial phone screens, participating in deep-dives, and calling on references
  • HR
  • Drive all employee processes across the organization, including but not limited to our employee handbook, hiring & onboarding, terminations & offboarding, performance management, compliance, immigration, etc.
  • Lead the evolution of benefits and perks as we scale, ensuring we remain competitive in the market
  • Develop compensation and leveling strategies for Antelope with Assemble, and lead the charge on all internal compensation and promotion discussions
  • Process payroll for hourly and salaried employees, consultants, and interns
  • Ensure we are compliant with all employment laws, local and federal, in partnership with outside counsel
  • Retention / Culture
  • Serve as internal culture-bearer / coach; someone everyone can turn to with their problems
  • Launch eNPS surveys and the implementation of programming to respond to them
  • Drive career development for employees, including coaching, managerial workshops, and mentoring
  • Lead all culture programming, including annual retreats, offsites, and localized happy hours
  • Diversity, Inclusion, Equity and Belonging
  • Develops and maintains the company’s point of view and values on diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging
  • Drive cultural competency across the company -- ensuring that Antelope can find the necessary and culturally relevant resources needed to maintain and develop psychological safety
  • Integration
  • Participate in HR diligence of future acquisition targets, and develop post transaction announcement and 30/60/90 day plans once acquisition is closed
  • Lead integration of teams and systems across new companies (e.g. review of employee handbook, payroll systems, benefits, etc.)
  • Leadership / Communications
  • Play an active role in the Antelope-wide strategy and planning process on a quarterly and yearly basis, including Org structure development and evolution
  • Drive improvements in communication strategies across our increasingly remote team, and respond quickly to external shocks

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate for this job: 

  • Has passion for entrepreneurship, consumer brands, and pets (being a pet-owner is a plus)!
  • Demonstrates strong executive presence, with the ability to scale a team and develop a followership to close candidates
  • Strong leader, communicator, and relationship builder with proven ability to lead and influence others
  • High EQ, self-awareness, professionalism, humility and openness to feedback and continuous improvement
  • Growth mindset and resilience under pressure
  • Is resourceful and scrappy -- able to figure things out very quickly and willing to roll up sleeves
  • Has a bias for action, generating outcomes and results even if it’s not perfect
  • Has equal parts qualitative (soft) people skills and analytical prowess, with strong strategic thinking and problem solving ability 
  • Has demonstrated capability in adapting and innovating HR practices and solutions (onboarding, employee experience/engagement, performance management, etc.) and right sizing them to the needs of a fluid, fast-paced, entrepreneurial organization

Antelope, an omni-channel, pet consumer platform, was founded in August 2021 with the mission to elevate the lives of pets by delivering the highest quality products across all pet products and services via a buy and build strategy. “Ante” means to increase the stakes or consideration of, and “lope” means to leap with bounding steps–together, we are elevating the standards of pet care by buying, building and growing high-quality, natural pet brands. We’re backed by Alpine Investors and have made four acquisitions so far (Bocce’s Bakery, Diggin’ Your Dog / Super Snouts, Doggo, and Ark Naturals), and we’re still just getting started! We have plans to acquire 5-15 additional all-natural, high-quality brands to become the one-stop-shop for pet parents.
